M&C Saatchi Group and London’s Saatchi Gallery have unveiled a new international art initiative titled the annual Art for Change Prize.

The agency’s partnership with the art gallery intends to expand access to contemporary art, widen learning opportunities for young people and also recognise a new and upcoming generation of artists ‘influencing real change’.

The free-to-enter prize will ask creators to respond to the theme of ‘Equality’ in a bid to kick-start a dialogue around the topic through visual arts.

A total of £20,000 will be divided between six winners, with five receiving £2,000 each and one being awarded with £10,000. All artists will have the opportunity to display their work in a dedicated exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.

“Art has the ability to help us understand ourselves; explore the issues we face as individuals and as a species; and to contribute fresh ideas for the future. We need those ideas more than ever,” Saatchi Gallery director Paul Foster said.

“We need visionary artists and their creativity more than ever. Our aim is to nurture and develop this prize so that new voices from around the world are heard and progress might be realised.”

Applications will be open to artists from the M&C Saatchi group’s key global regions UK, Europe, Americas, Asia, Australia, and Africa.

M&C Saatchi CEO Moray MacLennan added: “Our partnership with the Saatchi Gallery is about providing meaningful support for emerging artists, globally. It is also about having a positive impact on society, because that’s what art can do, create Meaningful Change.”
