The Premier League has confirmed that LED perimeter boards in football stadiums will display tributes to the Queen instead of advertisements this weekend.

Ahead of Her Majesty’s funeral on Monday, big screens inside stadiums will also display odes to the Queen throughout the duration of this weekend’s games.

While flags surrounding pitches will also fly at half-mast, players, managers and match officials will also join tributes by wearing black armbands.

Before singing the National Anthem, fans will be asked to join a minute’s silence and a round of applause in minute 70 of each game to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s seven-decade reign.

The top-flight league has said its hopes football fans will “come together to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation and world.”

While Premier League games resume this weekend, the English Football League (EFL) resumed on Tuesday 13 September and the fifth tier National League returned on Monday 12 September.

This Tuesday isolated boos and shouts were heard during a moment of silence at Anfield ahead of Liverpool’s european clash with Ajax.

Separately, since the passing of Her Majesty a raft of broadcasters and media owners have temporarily suspended most, if not all advertising across their platforms.

Industry powerhouse ClearChannel announced late last week: “As a sign of respect for the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, all Clear Channel UK digital displays will be blacked out until 6am on Saturday.”
