Global PR powerhouse Edelman has extended its long-running relationship with fossil fuel giant Shell after winning a bidding war to secure its global public relations account.
First reported by Provoke Media, this latest deal is thought to be in the region of ‘eight figures’, which would make Shell one of Edelman’s largest client accounts.
Despite stating its believes: “climate change is the biggest crisis we face as a society,” Edelman is coming under increasing pressure to justify its continued partnership with the oil and gas giant.

This is despite being described by the Climate Investigations Center as “the dominant PR firm for trade associations that promote an anti-environmental agenda.”
Edelman’s actions were brought to head at last year’s Cannes Lions where CEO Richard Edelman was hounded by protesters and Clean Creatives over his firm’s questionable client record.
The PR firm is of course not the only agency coming under fire for working with Shell, with global creative shop Havas facing a barrage of negative press after securing the fossil fuel firm’s media account last year.
